Chicago and Tokyo were eliminated from the race to host the 2016 Summer Games, striking a blow to President Barack Obama, who supported the US bid. International Olympic Committee members are now voting to pick between Madrid and Rio de Janeiro, IOC President Jacques Rogge said in Copenhagen. The winner needs a majority from the 106 IOC members. Members with ties to a bid still in the running cant vote. Chicago brought in US President Barack Obama to support its bid, while Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva flew in to stress Rios main selling point: South America never has held the Games, which began in 1896. Juan Antonio Samaranch, the 89-year-old former IOC president, appealed to members to give the Games to Spain. Samaranch led the committee from 1980 to 2001.
